Massive fire at Tamil Nadu firecracker unit, huge Diwali stock goes up in flames

A firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, which had stored large quantities of firecrackers, caught fire on Saturday.
Explosions continued for over two hours due to the extensive stockpile, which had been prepared ahead of the upcoming Diwali festival.
Fortunately, no workers were present at the time, and there were no injuries.
However, the blast was so powerful that several nearby houses sustained damage, with the shockwave felt across a wide area. At least six rooms within the factory were completely destroyed.

Fire and rescue teams swiftly responded and are actively working to extinguish the fire. Officials suspect the blaze may have been triggered by a sudden spark when a lorry arrived at the site to load firecrackers.
According to Virudhunagar’s district collector, the factory was licenced, as per the preliminary enquiry findings. Further investigation is underway.
